Heavy equipment mobilized Monday 5/11/99 beginning the expansion project. A 'haul road' is being constructed to provide the large earthmoving equipment access to and from the excavation site and soil stockpile.
Starting mid-April, the landfill will be expanding. This expansion will extend onto about 22 acres adjacent to the eastern boundary of the landfill and will consist of 3 lined base modules with one additional module that will overlay the 3 base modules. In preparation for the expansion, an estimated 569,000 cubic yards of soil must be excavated. After the soil is excavated, a geosynthetic material is laid down with a 60 mil HDPE liner on top of it. Approximately 410,000 square feet of GCL and liner are expected to be used. The project is expected to take about 5 months and will be closely monitored by state and county agencies.
